Windows 7 Pre-Beta!

As promised I am staying up to date on the window 7 news. In fact I have managed to get my hands on the pre-beta release that was leaked from the Professional developers confrence. So far I have installed it as easily as Vista. I also downloaded the unlock feature to unlock the spiffy new taskbar.

I will admit it looks a lot like vista with a few tweaks here and there. All of the security and backup features are all in the new window solution center.  Many of the complicated Vista settings have been simplified. There are some really simple and nice Aero features. Also there are no more icons cluttering the system tray. They all run in the background.

After using Windows 7 for a few hours I noticed it runs just as fast as Vista on my laptop. Now I have 4GB of ram and a dual core proseccor in my laptop so this could be why they run the same. I will say this much Windows 7 boots faster than Vista.

I will be doing some Virtual PC tests soon and I will see how far I can push this pre-beta.

Well if anyone is wondering, I did get Ubuntu 8.10 installed. It ran very well after the download. It was simple to install. The only issue I had was i had to completely reformat my hard drive. I tried to resize my partition and Vista just did not want me to do that.

So I ran Ubuntu only for about three days and then gave up and installed Vista back on my laptop. Now this was not because Ubuntu ran poorly, but more because of the programs I ran would not run properly on it. I could get around every program except World of Warcraft. I worked on it all night for about six to eight hours. I finally gave up after i was able to get WOW to run but very poorly.

Now I am back to dual booting Vista and Ubuntu. Vista isn't a bad OS. I actually enjoy it on a system built to run it. Its sleek and stylish and with SP1 it work just as good as XP did in my opinion.

Finally for this post I have been hearing a lot of good things from Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference. Windows 7 may very well be the best OS they have ever came out with. Basically Vista scalable for net books to power PCs. I am trying not to get too excited just yet. I am sure I will have more to say about windows 7, so I will end with that.
